As I finished 2016 I made the decision to retire from active real estate. I have retained my membership in the Imperial County Association of Realtors and look forward to being of assistance when needed on several committees. I have also decided to begin a new and challenging task, running for election to the Imperial Irrigation District Board of Directors. The election which will be held June 6th is to fill the unexpired term of Director, Matt Dessert, who resigned to head up the Air Pollution Control Department of the County of Imperial. The theme for my campaign is Integrity, Transparency and Vision. The National Association of Realtors Code of Ethics is a great background for being a political candidate. My experience on the Professional Standards Committee, 2005 President of this Association and Realtor of the Year in 2006 are special honors that will help me in working for the customers in Division One and the entire I.I.D.
I was born and raised in El Centro and graduated in 1960 from Central Union High School. I then attended San Diego State University and majored in Broadcast Management. From 1963 to 1973 I was co-owner-Vice President of KXO Radio in El Centro; from 1973 to 1989 I developed a farm operation in the Westmorland area, Ed Snively Ranches, where I developed a Lemon Orchard under drip irrigation. Following the sky high interest rates of the 80’s I sold my ranch and joined the Board of Realtors first as a Realtor then as a Broker with my own office.
One of the standards of my business life has been to give back to the community that has been so good to me and my family. I have served as an appointed member of the El Centro City Council, Chairman of the El Centro Planning Commission, past president of the El Centro Chamber of Commerce, past president of the El Centro Host Lions Club, a 42 year member of the El Centro Rotary Club where I served as president and for 15 years was Rotary Foundation Chairman. I am also a multiple Paul Harris Fellow. I also served 28 years as the Public Member of the Local Agency Formation Commission and in 2002 was selected the top Public Commissioner in the state of California. All of these life experiences I believe make me a qualified candidate to serve on the I.I.D. Board of Directors.
If elected I will work very hard protecting our water rights. I look forward to help find a workable solution to the Salton Sea issue. I will make sure consumer electrical rates are responsibly addressed, and I will support sensible, cost effective renewable energy development. If you have a question for me, my cell number is 760-996-4709. I believe a candidate should talk 25% of the time and listen 75%.
My wife, Ruthie, and I, just celebrated our 51st wedding anniversary and we have two adult children and two rescue dogs from Dee’s Rescue. We live in El Centro. Thank you.
